Hello Bracey, if you just hold/hover your cursor over the photo you should get the name to come up in a little text box. They are all local ground orchids and I have a great article all about them which I am about to post up soon. Do you get these in your part of the world ??

What are the three orchid-like plants next to and below the lavender? Thanks.

Cheers,

Dear Burford,
It is a pleasure to endorse your encouragement of citrus in a (mixed) garden scheme. Although the Spaniards love to carve up their trees to unnatural and often painful fantasies, the careful selection of modern cvs offers a wonderful choice of style and fruit colour.
However your theme was also in the direction of colour. I must remind you of Streptosolen jamesonii, the marmalade bush, which can be a spectacular winter and spring performer. As far as I know they are tolerant of soil type but totally intolerant of frost. We rarely see extended blossom here but a neighbour 50m lower down the hill (and normally frost free) has a massive orange concoction every year.

Hello Jane, thanks for your message. I think you are right, this seems to have been the choice for the other comments I have had. It is a lovely tree but we do not see it offered for sale here on the Algarve - unfortunately ! I have seen it growing well in the south of France and in the north of Portugal too.

I think the first is Eleagnus angustifolia, it looks exactly like the large tree we have in our garden, beautiful scented flowers, leaves silver grey on the underside that shine in the sun, well worth the space.

Hello Solana,
Thank you for your comment. If you do not have any shelter outside for your seedlings, then keep them in a cool room indoors until end of February. If you can give the new small plants lots of light they will be happy.
You could try putting them into small pots so that they can get a root system developed before you put them into the ground. If they are on a windowsill then remember to turn them so they do not all lean into the light. Good Luck !

Ciao! I live in Porto, Portugal and I am getting ready to start my seeds indoors. Wondering if you knew, when the best time to move seedlings outdoors here is? I dont want to risk planting too early and having them freeze to death! Any advice would be great! Thanks
